Trash Cart Exemption Program Approved By City Council
Dubuque City Council members have approved the creation of a trash cart exemption program for residents who are physically unable to move the city's new 35-gallon tipper trash carts out on their driveway for pickup. According to a report, residents approved for the program instead will be allowed to take out a single 35-gallon trash bag each week. The program initially will be offered to 32 residents who previously have expressed concerns to the city about their inability to handle the new trash bins, but Assistant Public Works Director Arielle Swift said other residents also can apply for the exemption if they provide proof from a health care provider showing they are physically unable to wheel the carts or prove the physical terrain of their property prohibits use of a wheeled trash cart.
